The u13 boys traveled to Drogheda on Saturday afternoon for a U14 Div.3 match against St. Nicolas.
The conditions were perfect and the match did not disappoint.
Both sides were evenly matched and the large crowd in attendance were treated to a great game of football.
The home side had a strong start and registered 4 answered points. The Gers finally got into their grove as Sean Spaight scored 2 points and then a goal to give the Gers the lead.
The home managed to raise the green flag with a goal just before half time which mean the Gers trailed by 2 at the break.
The second half was an equally tight affair, as the sides traded scores in an end to end match. Sean Spaight contributed another 1:4 to get the Gers noses in front, with Roan Norton also chipping in with a much needed point.
The home side kept responded with several points and there was very little between the sides coming to the final stages.
The pressure was on in the Gers defence, as Rónán Duggan won the ball and found Sean Spaight with a good pass, who in turn found Roan Norton. Roan thought about shooting but instead found Rory Power who had lost his man. Rory finished to the net with as cool a finish as you will see and left the keeper with no chance.
The Haggardstown held out for well deserved victory, against a well drilled, strong and physical St. Nicolas side.
The ball hit the woodwork several times on both sides, on another day the result could have been different.
There were many good performances thoughtout the field, the Gers defence deserve great credit for their constant pressure and tackling on the opposition forwards.
The entire squad can be proud of the effort of getting to the final for what has been a very competitive league.
Comhghairdeas ar an iarracht iontach ó na buachaillí go léir!!
