GERS U15 BOYS START THEIR DIV 1 CAMPAIGN
Geraldines under 15s lost out to an impressive Cooley Kickams on Wednesday night in the first match of their league campaign.
The home side found themselves a point behind early on before Cillian Lynch levelled the score.
The visitors then went on a run of 1-4 without reply before Cillian Lynch again scored a point for the Gers.
3 quick goals for Cooley followed and it took a late Alex O Kane point to get the Geraldines back on the scoreboard before half time where they trailed 4-9 to 3 points.
On the balance of play the Gers should have been much closer on the scoreboard, having kicked 9 wides in the first half and seen 4 shots drop short into the keepers arms. They were to be much more effective in the second 30 minutes.
Jamie Soraghan, who was excellent in midfield, grabbed a couple of scores early in the second half before Cillian Lynch hit the net from a short range free to take his total to 1-2.
This was followed by another goal by Ryan McCutcheon - who had played in goal in the first half - and it was now 2-5 to 4-12.
Jamie Soraghan got another couple of points before Evan Hoey Rogers punched to the net from close distance.
A final point from the ever busy Alex O Kane left the final score 3-8 to 5-16.
A fine effort from the lads, who never stopped and rallied well in the 2nd period after trailing heavily at half time.
A Strong goalkeeping display from Evyn O Callaghan in the second half and good defending from Mathew Messin, Cillian Forrester and Oliver Begley.. meant Cooley found scores harder to come by and the Gers outscored Cooley in the 2nd half.
Special mention to Cormac Broe and David Clune who played despite feeling under the weather. The versatile Shea Neary, who covered several positions, Aaron Lynch, Eoghan O Brien, Eoin Rodgers and Padraig Corcoran all put in solid displays.
Next up for the Under 15’s is the Feile on Saturday in Darver - Good luck to the lads in that.
