U14 Boys shine in high scoring encounter
Division 1 League
Geraldines 4.09 St Fechins 3.10
Our 14 Boys pipped a strong St Fechins side in an end to end encounter in McGeough Park on Saturday evening. Playing against the wind in the first half the Gers were slow to start and were struggling with a fast moving Fechins attack falling 1-1 behind in the first few minutes. However strong defensive work by Aodhan Gibbons, Owen McGahon and Eoghan Traynor helped tighten up the full back line. Our half back line of Connor Ward, Mal Madine and Jack Greene were always diligent, tackling with intensity and a constant base for starting attacks. Oran Garavaglia had a fine game in goals making some vital saves and delivering long kickouts as far as wing forwards Aswanth Sivaraman, who added a point, and Conall Bowden who both worked tirelessly. A fine goal and a point by full forward Odhran McShane and a goal each by the impressive midfield duo of Finn Madine and Sean McKenna helped the Gers into a 3.3 to 1-7 half time lead.
St Fechins started the second half with intent but our defence, well marshalled by Aodhan Gibbons and helped by the tight marking of Ronan Traynor, held firm. Our forward line in both halves showed for the ball effectively with Aaron Walsh, Maciek Dobros, Conor Whitmarsh and James Mullen making incinsive runs and linking the play well. The Gers kept the scoreboard ticking with some well taken points from Eoghan Sweeney and seemed to be heading for victory until St Fechins sprang for a goal but the Gers kept going and found their reward when Jack Greene burst through to score a goal to retake the lead with 5 minutes to go and we held out for a deserved 2 point victory. Thanks to St. Fechins for a sporting encounter. Next up this weekend is a game against St Marys in Ardee. Best of luck lads 👍
